Tacos are one of my favorite meals because they are so versatile. You can make a lot of tacos into healthy recipes, too! Fish tacos are one of my favorites, especially my tilapia tacos with slaw, avocado, & lime. They are so simple, only use 7 ingredients, have well-balanced macros, and taste delicious! The kitchensinkit healthy fish taco recipe makes it onto our weekly meal plan at least once a month. You could make these with any type of fish or your desired healthy protein choice, but we like to buy this frozen tilapia from Costco, let it defrost in the fridge, and prepare it in the air fryer!
I don’t know about you, but I am not a fan of breaded fish, especially since it is not the healthiest way to prepare seafood. However, I do like fish that is a little crispy for some added texture, so adding seasoning & cooking spray to your air fryer does the trick! An air fryer is one of my top recommended kitchen appliances. My husband Richie & I are so glad we invested in one!
Now it’s time for the 7-ingredient healthy fish taco recipe – a kitchensinkit favorite! This recipe makes enough for 4 meals, so Richie & I will eat this for dinner two nights out of the week.
INGREDIENTS
7 pieces of tilapia (Richie has two pieces (~8oz) & Kelsey has 1.5 pieces (~6oz)). When you are preparing food for you & your significant other, make sure that each person is eating enough food for their body weight & their weight loss/weight maintenance goals!
1-2 bags of slaw
2 limes
2 avocados (1/2 per person each meal)
Cholula (if you like your food spicy!)
Salt, pepper, and/or seasoning salt (you don’t even need taco seasoning for these fish tacos!)
TILAPIA INSTRUCTIONS
If you buy frozen fish, make sure it is defrosted before it is time to prepare your meal. When Richie & I are doing our meal prep on Sunday, we will let the tilapia defrost in the fridge.
When it is time to prepare your fish, spray your air fryer with avocado oil spray, add 3.5 pieces of tilapia, and sprinkle on seasoning salt
Cook @ 400 degrees for 15 minutes
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SLAW, AVOCADO, & ASSEMBLY
Put your bag of slaw into a bowl, squeeze juice from 1 lime, add salt & pepper, and mix together
Chop 1 avocado per meal
Assemble tacos (Kelsey has 2 tortillas & Richie has 3) with avocado, slaw, tilapia, & Cholula
