Are you thinking about what kind of shower you want to have before your wedding? If you are a more traditional bride, you might want a bridal shower for just the girls. Or if you are more of a modern bride, like I considered myself to be, you might want a couples wedding shower! Both are amazing options for a shower before you say "I do." Keep reading to learn more about Rich & Kitch's couples wedding shower before our destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico! This is a great resource if you're thinking about what kind of bridal shower you want & can be used as inspiration to help you plan a couples wedding shower for a newly engaged couple, too!
I didn’t want a traditional bridal shower because 1) I don’t really like games and 2) I think opening presents in front of people is weird. So with my requirements, my now mother-in-law went above & beyond to host an amazing wedding shower for us! Our couples wedding shower took place two months before our destination wedding in Cabo. The shower theme was "bubbles & brunch" and it was held at Richie's parents house in Indiana from 11am to 2pm. We kept the guest to just Richie’s side of the family (which is huge) & my parents. We also had an engagement party with my side of the family/friends one year before our wedding, which is why we kept the wedding shower to Richie's side!
Having a couples shower was very fitting before our destination wedding because not everyone was able to travel to Cabo. This gave us a chance to see aunts, uncles, cousins, & friends, and celebrate our upcoming wedding with them!
We had amazing brunch food & lots of champagne at the shower - fitting with the bubbles & brunch theme of course! Instead of games, we did something that is common to do when we spend a celebration with Richie's family, called sharing. On birthdays for example, we all honor the person we are celebrating by saying nice words about them.
Richie’s family decided to do this for our couples wedding shower and it was so amazing! Everyone that decided to share told such nice stories or funny memories about us, and it was truly enjoyable for everyone to listen. It was also very meaningful for Richie & me and we were so touched by all the nice things people had to say! This was way better than opening presents in my opinion, too!
Our couples shower was a lot of fun so we highly recommend having one if you aren't thrilled about a traditional bridal shower. We also think a couples wedding shower is a great way to include everyone in your celebration, especially if you are having a destination wedding, since the turnout for destination weddings are usually smaller. Whatever kind of shower you have before your wedding, couples or traditional bridal, it will be amazing! If you are looking for the perfect white dress to wear for your shower, check out this post!
