Congratulations on making the decision to get married in Los Cabos, Mexico! As you are planning your destination wedding week festivities, having an excursion and/or additional event(s) for your wedding guests is a ton of fun. Planning an event (or a few) off of your resort is a great way to show your guests all of the amazing things Cabo has to offer! It also allows your destination wedding guests to get to know each other better before your wedding day. There are so many excursion and event options in Cabo, but keep reading for some of Rich & Kitch's favorite destination wedding week ideas for your Los Cabos wedding!
PRIVATE BOAT & YACHT CHARTERS
Seeing the famous Cabo rocks and arch is a must from the water. And there is no better way to do that than renting a private boat for you & your destination wedding guests! If you are interested in hosting a daytime excursion, like snorkeling, the Pez Gato I and Pez Gato III are great options for your destination wedding week excursion. We also love all of the options Cabo Sailing Ocean Adventures has to offer!
If you are interested in hosting an evening sunset sail during your destination wedding week, we highly recommend the Tropicat. This boat offers a 2-hour sunset sail cruise with an open bar and heavy appetizers. Here is a @kitchensinkit Instagram Reel of the boat on a typical evening! They usually play jazz music for a relaxing evening of sailing the Sea of Cortez & Pacific Ocean, but if you charter the boat for your private excursion, they allow you to play the music of your choice! We love this boat for a smooth sailing experience to watch the sunset from the water. This boat can host about 80 people which is perfect for larger destination wedding groups! Rich & Kitch chartered the Tropicat for a sunset sail during their destination wedding week in Cabo. We had about 30 guests attend and everyone LOVED the Tropicat as much as we did! While the Tropicat can hold larger wedding groups, it was nice having a smaller group, since everyone had a lot of space to walk around. Our wedding videographer even joined us for the sunset sail & here is the Lands End Films video!
We’ll share other welcome party and rehearsal dinner ideas later in this blog post, but chartering a boat like the Cabo Mar can be used for either of these events! The Cabo Mar hosts between 50-150 guests and offers an open bar and taco buffet. The tacos are grilled on the back of the boat, which are delicious, and there is plenty of seating downstairs and upstairs so everyone can enjoy eating dinner. There is also room to have a dance party upstairs if your wedding group likes to party! Based on the style of the Cabo Mar boat, we prefer this for a fun welcome party. If you want to charter a boat for your rehearsal dinner, we recommend Animalon by the Sea for a luxurious rehearsal dinner experience for larger groups. For 18 people or less, a boat like the Sun Cat can accommodate an intimate dinner experience, daytime snorkel tour, or sunset sail excursion, which is a great option as well. If you are getting married in Cabo in December, January, February, March, or April, you will even have a chance to see whales from your boat since this is Cabo’s whale season!
While most of these private boat charter examples are from the Pez Gato fleet, the Cabo San Lucas harbor has so many amazing boats and yachts to charter. By working with Rich & Kitch as your destination wedding & Cabo travel advisors, we can help you choose the best private yacht charter for your destination wedding group! WELCOME PARTY IDEAS
Welcome parties are commonly hosted at your wedding resort. Having a welcome party is a great way for the couple getting married, as well as parents if they are hosting the wedding, to meet and greet your guests upon their arrival to Los Cabos. You could have anything from a cocktail hour with appetizers, to a buffet-style taco bar, or even a bonfire on the beach. Having a beach bonfire is the latest trend, and we love them as an affordable way to include all of your destination wedding guests in an event. Whatever fits best with your vibe as a couple, Rich & Kitch can help you coordinate this type of destination wedding week event!
REHEARSAL DINNER
Having a rehearsal dinner the evening before your wedding may be the most common pre-wedding event. If you plan on having a rehearsal dinner, read this blog post to see how we can help you choose the perfect restaurant! As you are thinking about your rehearsal dinner, it is thoughtful to include all of your destination wedding guests if your budget allows it. If not, make sure your wedding party and key family members are included on your rehearsal dinner guest list. If you can’t invite every guest to your rehearsal dinner, this is where we like to plan a bonfire or another excursion that all destination wedding guests are invited to attend!
ORGANIZING EVENTS & EXCURSIONS
Whatever you decide on for your destination wedding week excursions and events, you really can’t go wrong with anything in Cabo! The key will be to make your family and friends feel included. That’s why we think planning something extra for your guests is a great way to thank them for traveling to Los Cabos for your destination wedding!
Once you’ve worked with us to decide on your additional excursions & events, we will help you plan the details. We also recommend creating destination wedding week schedules using our affordable templates to add to your welcome bags! These schedules are helpful so your guests know when & where to meet each day to make it to the events!
From our wedding planning experiences, your guests will really appreciate being included in additional destination wedding week excursions, so if you have the budget to do something extra, we definitely recommend it! We also like to recommend hosting events at night, so your wedding guests are free to do whatever they want during the day, especially if you are staying at an all-inclusive resort. While the wedding week is all about the couple getting married, it is thoughtful to allow your guests to make a vacation out of your destination wedding week in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, too! That is what we did for our destination wedding & our wedding guests really appreciated it!
