A GUIDE TO EXPLORING THE BEST OF WINE COUNTRY IN VALLE DE GUADALUPE MEXICO

Are you ready to embark on a journey through Mexico's vibrant wine country? We’re here to recap our recent escapade through this picturesque region, filled with stunning vineyards, luxurious accommodations, & delectable dining experiences. Whether you're seeking a luxurious retreat among the vines or a coastal escape by the sea, Valle de Guadalupe promises an unforgettable adventure for wine lovers & wanderers alike.

WHERE TO STAY IN VALLE DE GUADALUPE MEXICO

With an array of charming boutique hotels, eco-friendly lodges, & luxury resorts, choosing where to stay in Valle de Guadalupe can be a delightful dilemma. As luxury travel advisors, we can help you choose the best place to stay & make sure you are treated like a VIP during your trip to Mexico’s wine country! Contact us here to start planning!

Our trip included stays at two remarkable establishments: El Cielo Winery & Resort and Hotel Punta Morro. Both accommodations left us enamored, each offering its unique charm and comfort.

El Cielo is a five-star resort that offers a luxurious vineyard experience complete with gourmet dining & spa amenities. We were greeted with a welcome glass of wine at check-in & had a welcome amenity in our room (which we can get you by booking with us as your travel advisors)! El Cielo’s Italian Villa-style rooms are spacious, comfortable, & offer breathtaking balcony views.

The entire property is beautiful, massive (as you can see in this @kitchensinkit Instagram reel), & very safe, located behind a gate & 2 guard stations. They offer complimentary transportation around the resort & winery which is very convenient, too! Since the property is so big, I was able to enjoy my morning runs around the vineyards & there is a small gym!

We paid extra to have breakfast added to our reservation which we highly recommend. Breakfast is at their Polaris restaurant & had the best chilaquiles we’ve ever had. El Cielo has another amazing restaurant that we tried for dinner & we’ll share more details about our experience later on in this blog post! The resort's food options don’t stop there though. They also have a room service menu which we enjoyed during our last night. The resort also has a pool which wasn’t heated, but it is beautiful & they have a poolside menu.

Rich & Kitch think El Cielo Resort is the perfect place for a romantic weekend getaway, mini honeymoon, or wedding anniversary trip! El Cielo even has a church which makes this resort great for a destination wedding, too.

Please contact us here if you’d like to stay at El Cielo Winery & Resort!

We wanted one night of our trip to Mexico’s wine country to be by the ocean & we loved our stay at Hotel Punta Morro! The hotel is located in Ensenada, Mexico, & offers a tranquil coastal retreat, complete with beachy boho vibes, inviting pools, & mesmerizing sunset views.

The rooms are spacious, comfortable, & have beautiful balcony views that are perfect for listening to the waves. The only downside of staying here for me is that there is no gym, but I got my mile run around the property! If you know us, you know we LOVE being by the water, so our stay here was the perfect seaside escape to end our road trip stop in Mexico's wine country.

WINE TASTING IN VALLE DE GUADALUPE

Valle de Guadalupe boasts over 100 wineries, each offering its distinct flavors and ambiance. To maximize your wine-tasting adventure, we recommend booking private transportation so you can explore hidden gems off the beaten path. Our wine-tasting adventures led us to several esteemed wineries, each offering a unique blend of flavors & experiences!

Since we stayed at El Cielo, we had to try their wines, & they did not disappoint! The tanks & barrels wine tasting with the charcuterie board was our favorite. It was a great learning experience & this tasting had our favorite wines. The opportunity to taste directly from the barrels added an immersive dimension to our tasting experience, so this tasting is a must!

We also did the Estrella’s tasting in the cellar room which was low-key & relaxing. El Cielo’s stars wines are their highest rated & very good! They also have constellations wines & another tasting in the cellar paired with chocolates.

We did more wine tastings at El Cielo than we thought because of the rain from the Pineapple Express storm, but no complaints here since they have so much to offer as you can see in our @kitchensinkit Instagram reel linked here! Other wine-tasting options include wine tasting on the terrace, wagon ride or golf cart tastings, & more! But the standout is the tanks & barrels tasting, accompanied by a delightful charcuterie board for sure!

We highly recommend Monte Xanic for its exceptional quality wines. Monte Xanic left a lasting impression on us with its diverse selection. We are so glad we stopped at this winery since it is one of our favorite wine brands to buy at the local grocery stores in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Our wine tasting at Cuatro Cuatros was guided by the winemaker himself & he offered insights into the artistry behind each pour. While they are not a large producing winery, every wine we tried was delicious.

This is a huge property that would also be an amazing place to stay. Cuatro Cuatros has a boat bar that offers mezcal tastings & their Bar Bura restaurant for lunch looks amazing, so we can’t wait to experience all that Cuatro Cuatros has to offer next time we’re in Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico!

While the hospitality at Torres Algre was commendable, the wines fell short of our expectations, so this is a winery we do not recommend. Nevertheless, we appreciated the opportunity to explore & refine our tastes!

BUCKET LIST STOPS FOR NEXT TIME

Overall, a major benefit of visiting wine country in the winter is that all of our tastings were just the two of us which was very enjoyable. We didn’t get to try any sparkling wine, but we embraced the opportunity to savor the region's white wines & rosés. We also discovered a newfound appreciation for chilled reds & Nebbiolo varietals. Cheers to new discoveries & unforgettable experiences in this enchanting corner of México!

CULINARY DELIGHTS IN VALLE DE GUADALUPE MEXICO

No visit to Valle de Guadalupe would be complete without indulging in its culinary offerings. From farm-to-table dining experiences to gourmet food trucks, the region is a paradise for foodies.

We enjoyed an exquisite food & wine pairing dinner at El Cielo's Latitud 32. Everything we ate was delicious & all of the El Cielo wines we had were amazing. The service was top notch & we had such an enjoyable dinner! When staying at El Cielo Resort in Valle de Guadalupe México, having dinner at Latitud 32 is a must & you might as well go all out with the food & wine pairing!

Hotel Punta Morro’s restaurant in Ensenada, Mexico was another great dining experience! Perched over the Pacific Ocean, the restaurant has amazing views & more opportunities to listen to the waves. The service was amazing & all of the food we tried was delicious! The fresh seafood did not disappoint & we loved the ahi tuna sashimi, lobster enchiladas, & swordfish. We were also treated with gluten-free dessert for me & chocolate moose for Richie! We were wined out from wine country when we had dinner here, but the restaurant has an impressive wine list with some of our favorite wines we tried in Valle de Guadalupe. To switch things up, we highly recommend a stop at Hotel Punta Morro’s restaurant for dinner during your trip to Mexico’s wine country!

TIPS FOR VISITING VALLE DE GUADALUPE MEXICO

As we’re helping you plan your trip to Valle de Guadalupe, these are our Rich & Kitch tips:

  • Visit Between July - October: Summer offers optimal weather & harvest season in the fall makes these months ideal for exploring the vineyards & indulging in wine tastings.

  • Hire a Driver: Avoid the hassle of navigating unfamiliar roads & potential encounters with law enforcement by hiring a designated driver. Trust us; it's worth the peace of mind. We experienced a Mexican shakedown by corrupt cops before we got to our resort, so it’s just not worth driving around, & having a driver makes wine tasting so much more enjoyable! We coordinated our ride through El Cielo’s concierge who has a partnership with Lomas Travel which was very convenient.

  • Outdoor Adventures: Beyond wine tasting & gastronomic delights, Valle de Guadalupe offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor exploration. You can embark on a scenic hike through the rugged landscapes of Cerro San Antonio for panoramic views of the valley, or go horseback riding through vineyards & olive groves. If you’re looking for something more adventurous, we recommend hot air balloon rides over the valley for a bird's-eye perspective of its stunning beauty.

Valle de Guadalupe offers a sensory journey like no other, where the convergence of wine, gastronomy, & nature creates an unforgettable experience. Whether you're a wine connoisseur, a food lover, or simply seeking a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, Valle de Guadalupe beckons with its charm & allure. By following our recommendations as travel advisors, you'll embark on a memorable journey through Mexico's premier wine country, leaving you with cherished memories & a newfound appreciation for the art of slow living amidst breathtaking landscapes.
